In times past, the parents of the bride had to provide a dowry for the young couple.  Sometimes the dowry was in the form of livestock like sheep, as in this case.  The dowry was to help finance the start of a marriage with purchase of a home and those things necessary to set up housekeeping.  Maybe this princess does not come from a rich kingdom as she is not getting a ride to church in a golden carriage.

Media:  Oil on canvas.  Wrapped edges of the canvas on top and sides are painted with sheep (see the edge detail photos).
