It seems like a long-ago memory when we were traveling without restrictions. Those visits to Europe are a joy to think about. I especially loved driving along the countryside on a bus while the guide pointed out a walled city on a steep hill. We were told about the perils of past times when it was common to be attacked by foreign enemies. The walls provided great protection. Of course, we asked to have a tour of the city but were told that the infrastructure could not handle the weight of the bus and passengers. We were locked out of that beautiful city!

That was enough to ignite a barrage of ideas for a painting when I returned home to my studio and painted Locked Out. Thinking about that city, I wondered if at times the residents have been locked out by those walls. Maybe even some of the animals that belong to the residents could not get home. That would be particularly sad for cows if it were milking time. To add to their misery, I added snow…poor cows!
